The sound box is a metal, round casing that uses thin membranes made of mica or metal. These membranes vibrate as a result of the needle’s movement in the record grooves, producing sound.
This particular sound box, made by PEROPHONE—a company specializing in gramophones and accessories for the British market—features a mica membrane. Constructed from nickel-plated sheet metal, it is capable of playing all types of gramophone records. It can be mounted onto a tube with a bayonet fitting of an inner diameter of 16.4 mm.
We preserve it in its original decorative box, which enhances its overall design appeal.
