Another gramophone from Pathé Frères showcases a unique approach to sound delivery—the so-called diffuser. This innovative component essentially replaced the traditional sound horn found in gramophones. It consisted of a flat, membrane-based resonator made of cardboard, designed to distribute sound more evenly and with a gentler tone. The aim of this design and material choice was to eliminate the sharp, metallic sounds typical of gramophones with large metal horns. The result was a warmer, more natural sound, making these models a preferable choice for some customers seeking a device for their home.
At the center of the diffuser's underside was a steel needle that captured the sound recorded on discs measuring 29 cm and 35 cm in diameter.
