This phonograph is most likely a licensed product from Columbia, specifically the Type B "Eagle" model. However, pinpointing the exact manufacturer and production date is no longer possible.
What is certain, though, is that this cabinet design was highly unusual. Typically, phonographs were mounted onto a base plate, which was covered with a lid featuring a handle for easy transport. In this case, however, the base plate also doubles as a lid, allowing the box to be securely closed when the phonograph is flipped upside down inside it.
Overall, this is a fairly simple and affordable phonograph model from the earliest years of the 20th century. Finding one in good condition today is incredibly rare, which is why we are thrilled that our exhibit remains intact, in excellent shape, and fully operational.
