Another phonograph of French origin, most likely from none other than the renowned Pathé Brothers company. While it bears the Musica emblem on its front panel—a trademark of Georges Dutreih’s commercial enterprise involved in the sale and distribution of phonographs in Paris—this seems to have been a smaller business, as few devices with its distinctive red star have survived to this day.
Nevertheless, the phonograph itself is both charming and compact, with an unconventional design. Instead of a typical suitcase-style lid, the device is released and lowered into a wooden cabinet like a box, topped with a flat board that acts as a cover. This design is yet another testament to the ingenuity of Pathé’s engineers, whose wealth of ideas continues to inspire silent admiration.
